Brilliant Cut

The brilliant cut is a special type of diamond cut that ensures the round shape of the stone. It is only the cut which gives the diamond its characteristic brilliance and inherent fire. With diamonds, this is understood to be the splitting of white light into the colours of the rainbow, which are then reflected. The brilliant cut is the most popular way to shape a diamond and is therefore the most commonly used. When cutting a gemstone, there are two possibilities: the smooth cut and the facet cut. The brilliant cut belongs to the latter, in which small smoothly polished surfaces provide the special refractions of light that are then responsible for the fire within the diamond. The brilliant cut originated in 1910 and was developed to create the ideal measurements for a diamond with the right fire. The facets of the gemstone are arranged symmetrically and evenly. Brilliant cut diamonds are found on just about all jewellery and are often set with four or six claws on a ring.
