Gemstone

The term gemstone refers to various minerals and rocks that are of particular relevance for jewellery production. What exactly constitutes gemstones is not defined in more detail, but they should have three characteristics: Gemstones are rare, have a hardness higher than seven on the Mohs scale and have their own transparency. According to these criteria, the most valuable gemstones for jewellery production can be quickly characterized. Rubies, sapphires and emeralds are among the most famous and most valuable gemstones in the gemstone category. Diamonds are also considered gemstones, although they are modifications of carbon. In order for gemstones to maintain their special value and be interesting for jewellery making, they must have a special design. They are given this by their cut, which ensures that the light is particularly refracted at the gemstone surface and the gemstone has an attractive shine, an intense and characteristic sparkle, the so-called fire, inherent. Gemstones are an indispensable part of jewellery production and in most pieces of jewellery they form the absolute centre on which the focus is directed.
