Bronze

Bronze is a metal alloy that is frequently used in jewellery production. Bronze can be used to make a wide variety of jewellery, suitable for everyday wear as well as for more sophisticated occasions. Bronze has a very long tradition as a material for jewellery and is considered to be the oldest technical alloy in general. Finds of old pieces of jewellery and artificial products prove the use of bronze already more than 6000 years ago. Even an age, the Bronze Age, gets its name from the dark reddish metal, as it was the main material for weapons, tools and jewellery in this period. There are different types of bronze, but they all have in common that the alloy must have at least 60% copper. In contrast to brass, where zinc is the main component alongside copper, tin is usually added to the metal compound of bronze. The different bronze alloys have been used over time for a variety of purposes thanks to their properties; bells have been cast from them, art made with them and coins minted from the versatile metal. Today, bronze is still used in jewellery making, but is also used in electrical engineering as contact elements and in the food industry for their resistance to corrosion.
