Gemstone Jewellery

Gemstone jewellery refers to all pieces of jewellery that are set with the colourful gemstones. The processed gemstones are characterised by their bright colours and are classified according to three features: rarity, Mohs hardness and transparency. The absolute occurrence worldwide is used as the value for rarity. The Mohs scale describes the hardness of the gemstone and is divided into values from 1 - 10, whereby gemstones must have a value of at least 7. Transparency is about visible inclusions and scratches in the stone. In order to set gemstones in the various pieces of jewellery, such as bracelets, rings, necklaces etc., they must first be cut. This creates the appealing sparkle and characteristic shine that gives gemstone jewellery its special character. Jewellery with gemstones always puts a very special focus on the part it is worn on. Any material, such as silver, gold or platinum, can be set with gemstones. Popular gemstones are rubies, sapphires and emeralds. But topazes, citrines and amethysts are also very popular and are often used to enhance jewellery. Jewellery set with diamonds also belongs to gemstone jewellery, although they actually count among the modifications of carbon. Since a wide variety of materials can be set with the gemstones, the jewellery can be found in every price range and is therefore a popular accessory.
