Markasite

 Markasit
The marcasite belongs to the mineral class of sulphides. From a chemical perspective, however, it is an iron. The noble looking stone has its name from a province in ancient Persia. The province with the name "Marqashith", today Iran, is therefore the origin of the marcasite. However, this marcasite can be found in numerous other countries. Whether Romania, Sweden, Spain, USA, Peru or Bolivia: everywhere this accentuating stone is in great demand. In its natural space it forms tabular crystals, which have a dark bronze tone, but sometimes are also tin-white and in rare cases have a green tinge. The marcasite is also known as "cat gold" because its colour has often been confused with pure gold. Historically, marcasite was very popular in Victorian England and numerous pieces of jewellery were refined with it. Also today the marcasite enjoys a high value as a jewellery gemstone, because its shiny surface attracts attention again and again.
