Titanite

 Titanit
Titanite or Sphen is a very common mineral. It belongs to the mineral class of silicates and germanates. Titanite deserves great attention because of its colorlessness. Nevertheless, this gemstone can show different colour formations. In these cases it can be brown, yellow, green, grey or black. Historically, titanite was found in 1795 in the Hauzenberg graphite mines in the Bavarian Forest. After this find, the mineral got its name from Martin Heinrich Klaproth, who named it after its content at that time, namely titanium. The titanite can be found in about 3000 places worldwide. France, Germany, Finland, Bolivia, China, Australia and Argentina are only some of these numerous sites. The Titanite is also known as Sphen. The gemstone gets this name because of its wedge-shaped crystal form.
