Gold Alloy

The term gold alloy is often used in connection with various pieces of jewellery. This refers to the composition of the material used in the gold jewellery. Pure gold cannot be used for jewellery making, as it is very soft and therefore susceptible to damage and scratches, other alloy partners, such as silver, palladium and copper, are added to it. The best-known alloys are 8ct, 9ct, 14ct and 18ct gold. The numbers describe the fineness of the gold and thus the percentage of gold. The remaining percentage consists of other materials, which also determine the colour of the respective alloy. In the case of rose gold and white gold jewellery, the alloy partners are selected in such a way that the desired colour characteristics are created.
