Ring

A ring is the classic piece of jewellery. It is available for the finger, as a toe ring on the foot, on the earlobe as an earring or as a nose ring. A find of a mammoth ivory ring in the Czech Republic proves that rings are almost as old as mankind itself. Rings can have many different meanings. Due to their shape as a circle, they stand for infinity. So rings also found their use as wedding rings. They signal the promise of a married couple for eternal solidarity and are traditionally worn on the ring finger of the right hand. Friendship rings are also a popular way of depicting the togetherness of two people. Here, however, the focus is not on a love affair but on friendship and does not make the promise of a wedding as, for example, engagement rings do. They are worn on the ring finger of the left hand for one year until the wedding ceremony. But the ring is also very popular as a fashion accessory, without having a specific meaning or giving a signal. This is especially true for women, whereas men wear a ring more and more often.
