Polishing

The polishing is of particular importance for all materials in jewellery making, because it enables the characteristic smooth surface of any jewellery. This even structure makes the jewellery feel pleasant to the touch and is ultimately also a sign of quality. When polishing, the smoothing effect is achieved in different ways and with different tools. On the one hand, polishing deforms the surface of the processed material; the peaks that make the surface rough are levelled. On the other hand, polishing also causes a minimal removal of the material. Again, another possibility of polishing can be perceived when depressions in the metal are filled. Because of the smoothness that polishing creates on the surface, the material shines. Fine polishing agents that are commonly used for polishing are: Slurry Chalk, Polishing Red Cake, Polishing Slate, Cerium Oxide or Tin Ash. This polishing agent is then applied to the surface with a cloth and distributed by rotating movements. Leather, felt and rubber discs are also used for polishing.
