Engraver

The term engraver describes a profession that is of great importance in the world of jewellery. Through the practice of this profession, each piece of jewellery can tell its own story. Through his know-how, his special tools and, of course, his experience, the engraver applies individual patterns and personal inscriptions to the piece of jewellery according to specifications, so it can be of very special significance to its new owner and become an absolute and irreplaceable unique piece. An engraver can engrave pictures just as well as simple writing or even the imitation of a special handwriting, which is especially popular for wedding rings. The work of engraving itself is, by definition, a metal-cutting process in which material is removed from a surface in order to make what is desired visible through contrast. However, engravers do not only work in this way, their field of profession also includes work with lasers or acids. In this way, patterns or inscriptions can be applied to jewellery without leaving any chip residue. The most original tools of an engraver, however, are the hammer, chisel and burin, which are still used today in jewellery production alongside computer-controlled engraving.
