Pear Cut

A pear cut diamond has - as the name suggests - a drop or pear-like shape. This special cut is a combination of the brilliant and the marquise cut, whereby the diamond has a pointed and a round end. This cut is also known as the penduloque cut, as its shape is reminiscent of the pendulum of a clock (French: pendule). During the cutting of the diamonds, particular attention must be paid to symmetry, to ensure that one side is not more pronounced and wider than the other. The pear cut is particularly suitable for engagement rings, as there is usually a large diamond set in the centre, which stands out with this cut. The pear cut is also often found in solitaire rings. Due to their relationship to the brilliant cut, these diamonds shine almost exactly like brilliants, as they have a high number of facets. The natural colour of the diamonds is clearly visible, especially at the tip. Pear cut diamonds are eye-catchers due to their special shape, which also visually stretch the finger. These diamonds are usually set in a claw setting, which has to protect the gemstone especially well at the pointed end.
